Tube Feeding Baby The Tortoise

Baby, the 22-year-old tortoise, has not been eating for days.

A feeding tube is gently inserted down his throat. And small amounts of soft food is slowly syringed into the tube.

Tube feeding helps prevent dehydration and provide Baby with the nutrients he needs to make a recovery.

It is also important to make sure that your sick tortoise is placed in a safe, warm and clean environment.

Wondering if your tortoise is a boy or girl? 

A male tortoise has:

  • a longer and thicker tail
  • long fore claws
  • a concave plastron (the belly or ventral surface of the shell) to allow him to mount the female during mating
